The course lies on gently sloping land with spectacular views over the Dee Estuary and the Welsh Hills. The broad sweep takes in the suspension bridge near Connah's Quay, the Clwyd range including Moel Famau, Point of Ayr and Hillbre Islands. At the times of the equinoctial high tides, flocks of wild birds attract many bird watchers with their high-powered telescopes, binoculars and tripods on the edge of the Dee. The Wirral Country Park and Wirral Way, site of the old Neston to West Kirby railway, crosses the course. There are public footpaths across the course. The Club was founded on 12th June 1902. Nine holes were opened for play on 6th September 1902. The following year all eighteen holes were in use. From the outset there was a substantial number of lady members. The first club house was built in 1904 but was burnt to the ground in 1924. The present club house, designed by Herbert Rowse, was built in 1925. Various extensions have been added, notably the two wings in 1963. The present professional's shop was built in 1971. Having leased the course originally, the club purchased the land in 1948. Parts of the present course (now the 12th and 13th holes) were let to a neighbouring farmer until 1974. Further land was purchased in 2000. County events have been held at Heswall Golf Club since 1930 with increasing frequency as the quality of the course has improved. The first national event - the English Seniors' Championship - was held in the Centenary Year 2002. Heswall Golf Club members, ladies and juniors, have won numerous county, national and international honours. In recent years, Fiona Brown has represented Great Britain and Ireland against the United States in Curtis Cup Matches on two occasions.
