The land was donated by the Bowring family to the people of Liverpool in 1906 as a leisure and recreational park. The golf course was founded in 1913 originally as a 9 hole and extended to an 18 hole in the 60's. The course was the first municipal golf course in England. Former Prime Minister Harold Wilson is an ex-President of the club. A well designed parkland course which was transfered from Liverpool City Council to Knowsley in June 1997.Improvements to the course, clubhouse and facilities are planned throughout the next two years i.e. remodelling of the fairways and greens, refurbishment to the accommodation and reception facilities. At present the club does not offer food or changing facilities. The course layout integrates a number of golfing experiences with a well balanced mixture of Par 3 & 4 holes. However, all 18 holes offer a good experience for all abilities. Though not unduly long the course provides a test to all but the straightest of hitters.
